The current epidemic of police violence aimed against the
very citizens they are sworn to protect and serve shows no sign of
abating. Just this past week has focused attention on high profile incidents involving the savage beating of a college honor student and the extra-judicial murder of a mentally ill man holding a screwdriver. These and countless similar incidents have exposed the motto “protect and serve” to be utterly Orwellian, while severely diminishing how the public views law enforcement.
